What it covers

The Practitioner programme combines the core models of neuro-linguistic programming with essential concepts from classical psychology. Trainers may add material of their own, but every Association programme covers at least the following.

How the programme runs

Each module takes two consecutive days of six hours, with set breaks. Between modules, participants attend a two-hour practice session led by assistant trainers. Modules are attended in person; practice sessions may be followed online. A missed module can be made up free of charge with a following group, or earlier with an assistant trainer.

Certification

The final module is the certification. Day one is a three-hour written examination covering the whole programme. Day two is a practical case analysis presented to the group and the trainers. To be eligible, a candidate must have no more than two days of unmade-up absence and must have met every obligation of the programme.

What it builds

The Master Practitioner programme deepens and extends the Practitioner standard: more advanced use of NLP models, a firmer grounding in psychological theory and more complex work with individual and group change.

It follows the same module format and practice sessions as the Practitioner level. Certification follows the same principles, including the attendance of a second certified trainer, who co-signs every certificate issued.

Who it is for

Practitioners who want to apply the methodology with more depth in their professional or personal lives, and those who plan to continue to the Trainer level.

The Association’s teaching credential

The Trainer credential prepares experienced master practitioners to deliver Association programmes to the published standard. The programme brings together:

• Psychoeducation, including the foundations of psychology: psychological paradigms and theories of personality, developmental and child psychology, general psychopathology and the psychopathology of clinical syndromes, the psychology of partner and family relationships, and the foundations of psychotherapeutic approaches.
• Group work and personal development in a group setting.
• Mentoring, including work as an assistant trainer on a Practitioner programme.
• A certification examination, followed by the independent delivery of a full group under supervision.

What a certified trainer may do

A newly certified trainer may deliver Practitioner programmes straight away. Master-level programmes follow after the trainer has certified five Practitioner groups of at least six participants, assisted on a Master programme and completed a short mentoring programme. Trainers keep this authorisation while they hold active membership and follow the Association’s standards and Code of Ethics.
